1) Firstly, please note that PALESTINIAN dates are now available direct from Palestinian farmers at the Interpal Charity Shop (Leeds Road) and from us (please email: £45.00 for 5kg box which will last you ages!).

2) Please see the information at the bottom of this message about the wholesalers at St. James's Wholesale Market (off Wakefield Road) who are supplying all local shops with Israeli produce. Please read the letter which is self explanatory and read the responses we received when we called them last Monday morning.

3) We are encouraging people to attend the Calderdale PSC "Discover Palestine" event this Saturday 12-4pm in the Piece Hall Yard (near Halifax Bus Station). It should be a fun event for all the family!

4) We are starting the shop visits on Sunday 2pm onwards top of Leeds Road with a visit to Ahmed Foods (corner of Leeds Road and Lower Rushton Road). We will work our way towards city centre from there. Please bring along leaflets, banners & flags.

5) Next Saturday we are meeting at the bottom of Oak Lane (by Lister Park Gates) at 2pm and working our way up towards Lilycroft Lane. Sunday's actions to be decided.

6) We are also encouraging people to telephone Morrisons and Sainsburys as part of the international week of action called by the Boycott Divestment and Sanctions movement (see below).

Please let us know if you can join us by email.

THE BIG BOYCOTT WEEK’: July 9 – 17th 2010

BIG BOYCOTT ACTIONS AT MORRISONS and SAINSBURY SUPERMARKETS

BIG BOYCOTT PHONE IN

BIG BOYCOTT WRITE IN

BIG BOYCOTT BADGE PLEDGE

People of conscience all over the world want nothing to do with the Apartheid State of Israel. We don’t want Israeli goods in our supermarkets.

Week of action: July 9 – 17th 2010.

Demand an end to the sale of Israeli produce in our supermarkets.
The BIG Boycott Phone in: Friday July 9th 2010.
On July 9th – join the BIG boycott phone in: Use your voice – complain; ask questions.

Phone Morrisons; 0845 611 6111 (Lines open 730 a.m. – 6.30 p.m).

Phone Sainsbury 0800 636 262 (lines open 8 a.m. – 7 p.m.)

Ask why and demand answers:

Why is your supermarket sourcing produce from a country that repeatedly violates international law?

Why is your supermarket sourcing produce from companies that operate on land where Palestinians cannot live or work? (the Jordan Valley)

Why are you sourcing produce from companies that operate in illegal settlements and which benefit from an Apartheid system inside Israel?

Why are you sourcing produce from companies which are all benefiting from the illegal theft of Palestinian water and the theft of Palestinian land?

The BIG Boycott Write in: July 9th 2010

Write to Morrisons Head Office or to your local store manager.

To e mail: http://www.morrisons.co.uk/Store-finder/About-customer-services/Contact-Us1/

Or write to: Morrisons head Office: Hilmore House, Gain lane, Bradford, BD3 7DL.

Write to Sainsbury Head Office: J. Sainsbury plc, Holborn Place, 33 Holborn, London EC1 N2HT. Head Office Phone no: 0207 6956000.

Challenge them on the fact that they are trading with Israeli companies. Call for an end to business with Israeli companies which are profiting from Israeli occupation and Israel’s apartheid policies. The Israeli export companies known to be supplying British supermarkets, including Carmel Agrexco, Arava and Mehadrin Tnuport Export (MTEX) are all profiting from Israel’s violations of international law.

The BIG Boycott Badge Pledge: July 9th 2010

Make a pledge to wear your Boycott Israeli Goods badge, or any Boycott Israel badge.

Wear your Boycott Israeli Goods badge and keep on wearing it! Israel has been in the news so much that people are noticing badges and now is the time to tell people about the boycott, in whatever way we can. Wear badges; give out badges on the street; call on all your supporters to wear badges.

1st July 2010

Dear Wholesaler

We are preparing, as you are, for the Holy Month of Ramadhan which will be during August 2010. We are writing to advise you that we will be launching an unprecedented campaign in Bradford against the sale of Israeli products as part of an international effort to boycott Israeli produce (in particular dates and other fresh produce).

Last year we approached you politely with great respect and courtesy. When you gave your word to us in May 2009 that you would not stock Israeli dates: we believed your word was your honour & your promise. Yet, within months of the massacre in Gaza, you sold Israeli dates during Ramadhan 2009 despite what is happening in Palestine. You have sold out the Palestinians very cheaply. Selling Israeli dates is a direct support for the destruction of Masjid Al-Aqsa and support of the massacres of the occupying regime.

If you want to support the Israeli murderers then that is your choice.

If you choose to sell Israeli produce we would like to bring to your attention the following:

  • We will be producing and distributing 100,000+ leaflets in shops, community centres, masjids and elsewhere announcing the names of Bradford companies selling Israeli produce.

  • Our Bradford website has received 20,000 hits in less than 12 month and we have over 1000 subscribers to the email alerts who will be told who is selling Israeli dates

  • In addition, we have another 1000 email addresses of people in Bradford who will be campaigning against the sale of Israeli produce.

  • We will also be heavily involved in television, radio and other media activity raising awareness about the boycotting Israeli dates campaign

We are offering you the opportunity to show your support for Palestine by BOYCOTTING Israel. If you are desperate to see the killing of Palestinians and you choose to sell Israeli dates during Ramadhan please note that your company name will be listed on the leaflets, on our website, sent out to all our email subscribers and listed in our press release.

If you want to declare your support for Palestine and will NOT be selling Israeli produce, then please email us before Friday 9th July stating your support of Palestine and boycott of Israeli produce. You can email us on:  This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it

There is no excuse for supporting a murderous, psychopathic regime by selling their produce. We are aware that some wholesalers at St. James's Market made the excuse last year that Palestinian workers will lose jobs if you don't sell Israeli produce. You should note that the Palestinian Trades Unions have unanimously called for a boycott. Please look at the information available on the international Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions movement website: bds.net
